1968-69 Barclay Plager Blues Game Worn Jersey
Lot #25

This stunning blue dureen gamer by Rawlings and Geisler-Jorgen Sporting Goods was worn during the 1968-69 NHL season by All Star defenseman Barclay Plager. Barclay was the most gifted of the 3 Plager brothers who all played defense for the expansion era St. Louis Blues. He was also one of the most popular players in St. Louis Blues history. Following his unexpected death in February of 1988, the Blues wore a memorial “8” on their game jerseys to pay tribute to the loss of this local hero. His player number 8 has also been retired by the Blues.

Barclay was a 4-time NHL All Star between the years 1970-74. In 614 career games, all in a St. Louis uniform, Barclay amassed 1115 PIMS, providing both leadership and muscle for his teammates.

Sewn to the inside hem of this spectacular dureen are the Rawling’s, Geisler-Jorgen and wash instruction tagging. The game wear on this sweater is solid consisting of stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. This was a 2nd year gamer for both Plager and the Blues, whose NHL stories both began in the expansion season of 1967-68. The 3 tags that remain sewn into the hem are indeed a treat and help make this a true style rarity, as 2nd year St. Louis Blues gamers are rarely seen in the hobby. An incredible vintage offering that will surely enhance one lucky person’s collection.
