1958-59 Charlie Hodge Montreal Canadiens Game Worn Jersey Stanley Cup Season
Lot #2
This road white wool gamer was worn by Charlie Hodge during the 1958-59 Stanley Cup winning season. This Quebec native made his NHL debut in 1954-55 with the Montreal Canadiens where he would tend Goal over the course of 9 seasons. Hodge would go on to play for the new expansion teams in Oakland from 1967-70 and Vancouver in 1970-71. While Charlie backed up Jacques Plante and played sparingly during the 1950’s Dynasty years, he would claim the starting job in the 1960’s and was honored with two Vezina Trophies as the NHL’s best goaltender. He also was twice named 2nd Team NHL All Star for his outstanding efforts as Montreal continued to win Stanley Cups. Hodge was part of 6 Stanley Cup winning teams and played in three NHL All Star Games over the course of his 13-year NHL career.

This stunning wool has been incredibly well preserved with just some minor bleeding, a few small un-repaired holes, inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. There is also a crest restoration worthy of mention. The 1958-59 Canadiens became the NHL’s first team to capture four straight Stanley Cups, becoming hockey’s first true Dynasty in the process. The roster was headlined by the likes of Rocket Richard, Jean Beliveau, Boom Boom Geoffrian, Doug Harvey and of course Jacques Plante who played nearly every game that season. Charlie played in two games, including a 4-2 road win while wearing white at Madison Square Garden. The Canadiens defeated the Rangers 4-2 that evening with Hodge allowing goals to Harry Howell and Camille Henry. This true hobby rarity marks the first time that a white Canadiens wool from this important Stanley Cup winning season has ever appeared at Major Auction. A tremendous well-preserved example that is now more than 6o-years removed from the ice, hails from the historic season that officially established the 1950’s Canadiens as a Dynasty and would enhance any serious vintage collection, choice!
