Description
Late 1980's Greg Gilbert New York Islanders Game Worn Jersey
Lot #101

This home white air-knit gamer by CCM and Syosset Sports was worn by Greg Gilbert circa the late 1980’s. The New York Islanders selected Gilbert in the 4th round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in 1981-82 with the Islanders where he won the Stanley Cup in each of his first two years in the league. Gilbert enjoyed a 15-year NHL career and spent the first 8 of those seasons on the Island. He later played for the Blackhawks for parts of 5 years, was a member of the 1994 Stanley Cup winning Rangers team and then spent 2 years in St. Louis before retiring. Since leaving the ice, Gilbert has spent much of the past 15 years as a Head Coach, which included a 3-year stint with the Calgary Flames. Gilbert’s finest individual season came in 1983-84 as he played a full schedule for the first time in his career and scored 31 goals and 66 points while going a remarkable +51 for the Islanders!

This jersey is simply hammered; the game wear consisting of numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-reapired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, heavy inner pilling and a handful of team-sewn repairs. The left sleeve of this gamer has been torn apart at the seam and subsequently stitched up by the team extending a good 5 inches in length. Worn during an era when jerseys weren’t switched out with regularity, this hammered vintage example will surely please those who crave game wear.
