Late 1970's Dale McCourt Red Wings Game Jersey
Lot #89

This road red mesh jersey was issued for use during the late 1970’s by Dale McCourt. McCourt was the 1st overall selection in the 1977 NHL entry draft going to the Detroit Red Wings. After an outstanding award laden juniors career, Dale began his NHL days in the Motor City with a 33 goal 72 point outburst in 1977-78. The following several years saw McCourt net 28, 30 and 30 goals, while increasing his point toals to a career high 86 in 1980-81.

With his skill set clearly established, the Red Wings made a deal during the 1981-82 season that sent McCourt and Mike Foligno to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Danny Gare and Jim Schoenfeld. McCourt quicky established himself as a weapon with the Sabres, continuing to put up respectable goals and point totals. A handful of games into the 1983-84 season, the Maple Leafs signed McCourt. 1983-84 would be Dale’s final NHL season. He decided to leave the NHL and play in Switzerland in 1984-85 and he never returned, spending 8 seasons playing in the Swiss league where he starred. This size 50 heavy mesh gamer shows no discernible game wear and thus we will deem it to be team issued. The original vintage knit nameplate remains sewn above the player number on the back.
