This home white air-knit jersey by Reebok was worn by Tomas Holmstrom on January 2nd, 2007 during the Yzerman Night ceremonies and pre-game warm-up. This Swedish born Left Winger has spent his entire 11-year NHL playing career as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. During that time he has won 4 Stanley Cup titles. Serving as one of the Wings unmovable forces in the crease, Tomas’ grit and determination have made him forever a fan favorite.
On January 2nd, 2007 the Detroit Red Wings honored their long time Captain and future Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman with a Retirement Night ceremony. All of the Red Wings players would wear one of the many styles of jerseys that Stevie Y had donned during his long playing career. Included in this array of sweaters were a variety of homes and roads representing Team Canada, the NHL All Star game, Petersborough as well as the Red Wings which included their Stanley Cup Finals gamers from 1998 and 2002. That night, Tomas Holmstrom wore this 2002 home Stanley Cup Finals jersey in honor of his Captain.
Proudly sewn to the left breast of this sweater is the Captain’s “C”. Sewn to the right breast of this jersey are the Yzerman Night and the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals patches. Sewn to the inside hem is the official Yzerman Night tagging. The provenance on this wonderful piece of Red Wings history is stellar. Our consignor won this jersey at auction between periods of the game that night. The auction benefitted the Detroit Red Wings Foundation. Shown in the photo above is Holmstrom standing on the far right of the picture wearing this exact jersey during the ceremony. Along with the jersey will be included two "give-a-way" items from that evening, a beautiful banner like the one raised to the rafters and foldout with Yzerman 24 cards throughout his career. The jersey will be accompanied by a Red Wings team letter.
