This beautiful Northland Pro goalie stick was game used by Gilles Villemure while playing for the New York Rangers. Villemure started his career in the WHL and AHL playing for the Vancouver Canucks, Baltimore Clippers and Buffalo Bisons. Although he played for the Rangers in 1963-64, 1967-68 and 1968-69, he didn’t join the Rangers for good until 1970-71. In 1968-69 and 1969-70 he won the Les Cunningham award as the AHL’s most valuable player. In both those seasons he also won the Hap Holmes Memorial award for leading the league in G.A.A. Starting in 1970-71, Villemure played 5 seasons with the Rangers, winning a Vezina trophy (with Ed Giacomin) and playing in 3 NHL All Star games. He then went to Chicago and played with the Black Hawks for 2 seasons to complete his career.
This Northland Pro goalie stick has the player name “Villemure” stamped on the side. Also stamped on both sides, partially hidden by the butt tape, is the “Gerry Cosby & Co.” stamp. The stick is fully taped on the butt, paddle and blade. It is uncracked and in beautiful condition. The sticks has 18 NYR signatures including Villemure, Gilbert, Park, Giacomin, Demarco, Seiling, Irvine, Carr, Doak Hadfield, MacGregor Rousseau and Gratton.
