This road blue air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by a young Darius Kasparaitis, shortly after joining the New York Islanders. Kasparaitis quickly developed into a fan favorite on the Island where as a rookie he helped lead the Islanders to a “magical” playoff run. During those 1993 playoffs the Isles defeated the 2-time defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins in OT of game 7, the last important achievement of this once great franchise. Darius possessed a nasty edge to his game and was among the league’s most gifted agitators. In 863 NHL games he amassed 1379 PIMS. Following his time on the Island, he served with the Penguins, Avalanche and Rangers. He has represented Russia in the World Cup of Hockey and the Olympics.
The game use on this sweater is solid consisting of many stick marks, numerous board burns, board paint transfer, inner pilling, un-repaired burn holes and some team-sewn repair work. Evidence of a nameplate change exists, with this gamer having likely been worn by Randy Wood who last donned the same player number in the early 1990’s before Darius arrived on the Island.
