Kovalev began his career in New York with the Rangers in 1992-93 and was a member of the Cup winning team the following season. All told Alexei would spend his first 7 seasons with the Rangers before a trade sent him to Pittsburgh during the 1998-99 campaign. Kovalev’s career really took off after his arrival in Pittsburgh. In 2000-01 he set career highs with 44 goals and 95 points. He followed that up with a strong 32 goals in 67 games during the 2001-02 season. With 18 NHL seasons now under his belt, Kovalev has 428 goals and 1024 career points to his credit.
