McDonald, a native of Hartford, CT, played 4 years of college hockey at Providence. Upon graduating he spent the next 3 seasons with the Oilers AHL affiliate, the Springfield Falcons. McDonald made his NHL debut with Edmonton in 2009-10. He has since represented the Oklahoma City Barons and most recently the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
