2005-06 Bobby Holik Atlanta Thrashers Game Worn Jersey - "NHL Cares Katrina Relief" - Photo Match - NHL/NHLPA Letter
Lot #248

This road blue air-knit gamer by Reebok was worn by Bobby Holik during the October 8th 2005 game against the Washington Capitals. The Hartford Whalers selected Holik with the 10th overall pick in the 1st round of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. After 2 seasons in Hartford, Holik joined the New Jersey Devils organization for the 1992-93 campaign. He would find an immediate role with the franchise that saw him don their sweater for the next 10 seasons while winning two Stanley Cup titles. Holik later played for the New York Rangers for a couple of years before moving on to the Atlanta Thrashers where he played for three more seasons before returning to New Jersey for a final season. Holik was an important part of the New Jersey Devils Stanley Cup success and fit perfectly into their well-designed ‘system’.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the NHL Cares Katrina Relief Fund patch. The game wear on this sweater is light with some stick marks and board burns worthy of mention. Shown above are a couple of photo matches of Holik wearing this exact jersey during the 1st period of their home opener against the Caps. Following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the NHL banded together to support the Katrina relief effort. At the start of the 2005-06 season, each NHL team wore a Katrina patched jersey in the 1st period of their opening home games. The NHL and the NHLPA later auctioned these jerseys with the proceeds going to support those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Sewn to the inside hem is the official NHL game worn jersey tagging. As Bobby had just arrived in Atlanta, this sweater was his first-ever regular season gamer worn with the Thrashers, adding just a little more appeal for the Holik collector. This jersey will be accompanied by an NHL/NHLPA letter.
