Eric was the 2nd overall selection in the 2003 NHL entry draft by the Carolina Hurricanes where he has spent his entire 4 year NHL career. Already blossoming into one of the NHL’s brightest young stars, in 4 seasons Staal has tabbed three 30-goal seasons including a personal best of 45 goals and 55 assists for 100 points in 2005-06. That 100 point season earned him a 2nd team NHL All Star, but more importantly helped his Carolina Hurricanes to the 1st Stanley Cup in franchise history. Staal was a big factor during the Canes Stanley Cup run, scoring 9 goals and 28 points in 25 playoff games. Eric was also a participant in the 2007 NHL All Star game.
