This home white air-knit gamer by Pro Player was worn by Tom Barrasso during the 1999-00 NHL season. This Boston Massachusetts native enjoyed a stellar career that began with the Buffalo Sabres in 1983-84 and was so honored with the Calder Trophy for Rookie of the Year and the Vezina Trophy as league’s best goaltender. Barrasso shared the Jennings Trophy the following season with teammate Bob Sauve.
In his career he was 3 times a 1st or 2nd team NHL All Star and played in the NHL All Star game in 1985. Tom represented Team USA in the 1984 and 1987 Canada Cups. He won 2 Stanley Cups during his career, both with the Pittsburgh Penguins who acquired Tom from the Sabres in 1988-89. Tommy led the Pens to back to back Cup wins in 1991 and 1992. In 1992-93 Barrasso led the NHL in wins with 43. 1992-93 looked like it would be a 3-peat for the mighty Pens, but they fell in an overtime game 7 shocker in the playoffs to derail the would be dynasty. During his career Barrasso won an impressive 369 games, good for 13th on the all-time list. A compelling case will surely be made for Hall of Fame induction for Barrasso in the near future.
Sewn to the right breast of this enormous goalie cut sweater is the year 2000 NHL Milennium patch. The game use is typical for that of a goalies sweater consisting of stick and puck marks and some light pilling. Tom partook in 18 games for the Penguins before a deal that sent him packing to Ottawa mid season. This gamer was worn during the last of Barrasso’s 12 consecutive seasons while wearing the Penguins black and gold.
