This home white air-knit gamer by Pro Player was worn by Michael Nylander during the 1999-00 NHL season. The Hartford Whalers drafted Nylander in the 3rd round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Michael enjoyed a lengthy NHL career that spanned 1992-93 through 2008-09. During that time, Nylander played for the Whalers, Flames, Lightning, Blackhawks, Capitals, Bruins and Rangers. This Swedish native partook in 920 career games and scored better than 200 goals and nearly 700 career points. On the international stage, Nylander represented Sweden in numerous World Championships, the inaugural World Cup of Hockey and in 2 Olympics.
Offered here is Nylander’s first Blackhawks jersey, worn by Michael after arriving in November of 1999, following his trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning to Chicago. Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the year 2000 NHL patch. The game wear on this size 54 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, washed out bloodstains and areas of pilling. Upon arriving to the Hawks, Nylander assumed Bryan Muir’s vacated player number 37. He would switch to number 92 later in the season and wear that number for the remainder of his tenure, 4 seasons in all, with the Blackhawks.
Remi Royer played for the Hawks in 1998-99. We surmise that after Nylander changed to number 92, this sweater was prepared for Royer’s use in the event of a call-up. Royer remained the Hawks property until the following summer, July 20th 2000 to be exact, when he was dealt to the Washington Capitals in exchange for Nolan Baumgartner. Affixed to the inside of this gamer is the official Chicago Blackhawks inventory tagging.
