This home white air-knit gamer by Starter was worn by Martin Straka during the 1997-98 NHL season. The Pittsburgh Penguins made Straka their 1st round selection in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. He spent 10 of his 15 NHL seasons as a member of the Penguins, the team with which he is most often associated. During his 954 game career, this talented native of the Czech Republic netted 257 goals and 717 points. On the international scene, Straka partook in 2 World Cups, several World Championships and 2 Olympics that included a Gold Medal during the 1998 Winter Games.
This spectacular Starter jersey has been highly customized for Straka. The entire body has been shortened by 3 inches as the entire yellow colored hem has been tucked and hand-sewn up. Both sleeves have suffered the same fate, having been hand-sewn and shortened by nearly 2 inches. The game wear on this durable sweater is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks that can be found all over the body and sleeves, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, plenty of broken stitching, a rusted fight strap and inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Straka wearing this exact jersey during the 1997-98 season. A tremendous photo matched offering that is loaded with game wear.
