Description
1996-97 Ulf Samuelsson Rangers Game Worn Jersey - Team Letter
Lot #137

This road blue air-knit gamer by Starter was worn by Ulf Samuelsson during the 1996-97 NHL season. Ulfie will certainly go down as one of the most despised players of the modern era, assuming he wasn’t on your team. He patrolled the blueline for 16 NHL seasons and was a big part of the Pittsburgh Penguins 2 Stanley Cup winning teams in the early 1990’s.

In a 1000+ game career, Ulfie amassed nearly 2500 PIMS. He may be best remembered historically for derailing the Hall of Fame career of beloved Boston Bruins forward Cam Neely with what most agree was a cheap shot to Neely’s leg. Ulf was a member of Team NHL in Rendezvous ‘87 against the Russians and also represented his native Sweden in the 1991 Canada Cup and the 1998 Olympic Games.

The 1996-97 season was an important one in the Big Apple. It reunited Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier for the first time since they hoisted Lord Stanley’s Cup a decade earlier in Edmonton. This time the duo took the Rangers to the Conference Finals in one last hurrah before falling to the division rival Philadelphia Flyers. Samuelsson was along for the ride playing a steady defense and doing his usual irritating dirty work.

Onto the jersey; now who said Ulfie didn’t fight? Serious fight abuse exists on this well worn gamer and it’s pretty clear that Ulfie really ticked somebody off but good. The rear collar is split down to the Starter tag while the front collar is torn dead center down thru the ‘N’ and ‘G’ in Rangers. As for the remainder of the jersey, there are stick marks, loads of board burns and un-repaired burn holes, board paint transfer, stitch popping at the cuffs and inner pilling. A treat for those who appreciate a gamer that tells a visual story. This jersey will be accompanied by a Rangers team letter.
