Description
1995-96 Mike Legg University of Michigan Game Worn Jersey - "25-year CCHA Anniversary" - ESPY Award Winning Goal - 1996 Frozen Four National Championship - Video Match - Michigan Letter (Addendum)
Lot #183

Offered here is the actual game worn jersey that Mike Legg was wearing when he scored the famous lacrosse style goal that earned him ‘Goal of the Year’ by Inside Hockey Magazine as well as an ESPN ‘ESPY’ Award. ESPN anchor Dan Patrick called it “the greatest hockey goal I've ever seen”. The goal took place in the West Regional Final against the University of Minnesota. With Michigan trailing by a goal late in the 2nd period and facing elimination, Mike found himself behind the net with the puck. He craftily picked the puck up on his stick blade and wrapped it around into the top corner of the net, giving Michigan new life and earning him a place in hockey history.

Michigan would go on to win the game against Minnesota on their way to winning the 1996 NCAA Men's Frozen Four. Mike wore this jersey thru the entire tournament including the National title game against Colorado College. Incredibly enough, Mike did it again in the Frozen Four finals as he tied the game at 2-2, this time in the 3rd period to help send the game into overtime. A Brendan Morrison goal in overtime gave Michigan their first NCAA title since 1964. The stick that Legg used to score ‘The Goal’ resides proudly in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Here is an opportunity for you to own this Hall of Fame worthy jersey.

This shiny maize knit gamer by Nike was worn by Mike Legg during the 1995-96 NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament as the University of Michigan won the national title in the 1996 Frozen Four. Following 4 years at the University of Michigan, Mike went onto a professional career that took him initially to Finland and then back to the States where he played in the CHL, ECHL, IHL, WPHL and the WCHL.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the 25-year CCHA anniversary patch. Game wear consists of stick marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes and fine inner pilling found in the collar, body and sleeve areas of this important jersey. Shown above are video highlights of Legg scoring ‘The Goal’ as well as highlights from the victorious National Championship game. Also shown above is a video highlight from the recent special "The Best Damn Sports Show" where they list Legg's goal as the "18th Most Spectacular Play in Sports History". It isn’t often that collectors are provided an opportunity to own such a historic piece of hockey’s cherished history. While Mike’s stick used to score ‘The Goal’ resides in the Hockey Hall of Fame, presented here is your opportunity to acquire Legg’s game worn jersey from the aforementioned historic moments in time. This jersey will be accompanied by a Michigan University letter.
