Description
1993-94 Rob Ray Sabres Game Worn Jersey
Lot #194

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Rob Ray during the 1993-94 NHL season. Ray is a 15-year NHL veteran who spent his first 13 seasons as a member of the Buffalo Sabres. Rob is one of hockey’s all-time leaders in PIMS having amassed in excess of 3200, including 2-times eclipsing the 350 PIM mark in a single season! Fight fans could fill volumes of Ray’s fights alone. In 1999 Rob won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community.

Fantastic customizations as well as solid game use and fight abuse are among the highlights featured on this sweater. Measuring out at a size 58, it appears even wider due to the customized shortening that has occurred in the hem and sleeves. The width has been even further enhanced by the addition of sewn-in side panels. The game use is just as you would expect it to be on a Rob Ray gamer from this era, his most active. There are stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, plenty of outer pilling, loads of inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. This sweater was worn before the league mandated that player jerseys be tied down with their fight straps. The absence of a fight strap will attest to that as images of Rob’s sweater flying over his own head and onto the ice to gain a pugilistic advantage still ring vibrant in our memories. Between the back player numbers is a beautiful blue sharpie signature in Rob’s own hand.

This gamer was worn during a season which saw Ray play the full 82 game schedule. He amassed 274 regular season PIMS and another 43 PIMS in 7 playoff contests that year. This is a true prize for the collector of the tough guy and is certainly one of the finer Rob Ray gamers in the hobby.
