He played the role of enforcer for the Blues, Nordiques and Senators during his career racking up 775 PIMs in 343 games played. In 1987-88 with the Blues Herb notched 190 PIMS, a career high.

This gamer was worn during this pugilists final NHL season which consisted of a mere 29 games. Despite that, fine game wear is evident in the form of many stick marks and board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and a dozen team-sewn repairs. Both sleeves have been torn along the seams and resewn to provide a more snug fit thereby not allowing opponents an easy grab at incoming haymakers.
