Description
1990-91 Doug Wilson Chicago Blackhawks Game Worn Jersey - "1991 All Star Game"
Lot #334

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Doug Wilson during the 1990-91 NHL season. Wilson was drafted 5th and 6th overall by the Indianapolis Racers and the Chicago Blackhawks respectively in the 1977 WHA and NHL Amateur Drafts. Wilson began his professional career with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1977-78 and remained with his original team for 14 seasons before finishing his career with a 2-year stint with the expansion San Jose Sharks. Wilson was one of the best defenseman of his era, earning himself three 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star selections and participating in 7 NHL All Star Games as well as Rendezvous ‘87 and the 1984 Canada Cup. The 1981-82 season was a special one for Doug as he tallied an unthinkable 39 goals and 85 points en route to a defenseman’s highest honor, the Norris Trophy, and thus became only the 2nd defenseman in Blackhawks history to achieve that award. In 1027 games played, Wilson lit the lamp 237 times, added 590 assists and registered a most impressive total of 827 points from the blueline.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the coveted 1991 All Star Game patch. The 1990-91 season was Doug’s last in Chicago and was limited to 51 games as Doug netted 11 goals and 40 points. The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, a fight strap that has lost the battle to salt and rust and heavy inner pilling. While we can confidently say that this sweater was worn during the 1990-91 pre-season due to the lack of an NHL shield, it seems likely based on the heavy inner wear as well as the well-worn condition of the fight strap, that it was also worn during either the 1990-91 regular season, despite the NHL shield requirements, and/or during the 1989-90 post season as the Hawks marched to the Conference Finals. Whichever the case may be, this sweater is a certain grail for many of the die-hard Blackhawks collectors that have been in search of a Wilson, an All Star patched gamer or both! A beautiful All Star patched example, worn by this legendary Norris Trophy winning and 7-time All Star defenseman, during his last season while skating in front of the hometown fans at the United Center in Chicago, choice!
