This road red knit gamer by CCM was worn by Viacheslav Fetisov during the 1989-90 NHL season, his rookie year. The New Jersey Devils selected Fetisov in the 8th round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Slava spent the first 15-years of his Hall of Fame career playing in the Soviet Union for the Red Army and National Team. During that time he earned numerous accolades, became the Russian Team Captain and is thought of as the greatest defenseman in the history of Russian hockey. Fetisov competed in numerous World Championships, 4 Super Series, Rendezvous ‘87, 2 Canada Cups, the World Cup of Hockey and 3 Olympics including the 1980 Miracle on Ice games at Lake Placid.
At 31 years of age Fetisov began his NHL career. He spent 9 seasons in the NHL, splitting his time between the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings. In his 3+ seasons with the Red Wings, Fetisov’s leadership helped guide his team to 3 Stanley Cup Finals. He won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 1997 and 1998 and retired after hoisting the Cup in the spring of 1998.
Offered here is Fetisov’s road rookie jersey. The game wear on this old-school vintage Devils sweater is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, plenty of board burns and colorful board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, a fight strap that has lost the battle to salt and rust and fine inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Fetisov wearing this exact jersey during his rookie NHL season. A tremendous well-worn, photo matched offering, worn by this All Star defenseman during the rookie season of his Hall of Fame career, choice!
