1987-88 Michel Goulet Nordiques Game Worn Jersey - "Rendezvous 87"
Lot #19

This road blue knit gamer by CCM was worn by Hall of Famer, Michel Goulet during the 1987-88 NHL season. Goulet was Quebec’s 1st selection in the NHL entry draft, going 20th overall in the 1st round of 1979. He was part of the NHL expansion, beginning his NHL career in 1979-80 following the collapse of the WHA where his career began.

His first season in pro hockey was spent with the WHA’s Birmingham Bulls in 1978-79. Goulet was among the finest left wings of his generation, and in NHL history for that matter. He netted a spectacular 548 goals and 1152 points during a 15-year NHL career. Michel’s goal totals from the period of 1981-82 thru 1987-88 is an impressive read, 42, 57, 56, 55, 53, 49 and 48 respectively. He was 5 times a 1st or 2nd team NHL All Star and also played in 5 NHL All Star games. Michel represented Team Canada during both the 1984 and 1987 Canada Cup’s while representing Team NHL during Rendezvous ’87 against the Russians. Michel’s career ended prematurely as he suffered a vicious head injury during March of the 1993-94 season while a member of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Affixed to the shoulder of this gamer is the ever desirable Rendezvous ’87 patch. The game use on this jersey is solid consisting of many stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, fine inner pilling, un-repaired holes and a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. The fragile nature of the heat pressed Fleur-de-lis and numbers is now evident in the form of some cracking and peeling. This sweater was obviously worn quite extensively during the 1987-88 campaign based on the significant game use. 1987-88 was Michel’s final great statistical season which saw him net 48 goals and 106 points. It was the last 100 point season of his storied career.
