1987-88 Kelly Chase Saskatoon Blades Game Worn Jersey
Lot #582

This home white knit gamer by Cooper was worn by Kelly Chase during the 1987-88 WHL season. Chase spent 8 of his 11 NHL seasons as a member of the St. Louis Blues. He began as a rookie in 1989-90 and remained in the show me state until he joined the Hartford Whalers for parts of 3 seasons in 1994-95. In March of 1997, the Whalers traded Chase to the Leafs where Kelly played in only 2 games. He returned home to St. Louis the following year and spent the last 3 years of his NHL career with the Blues. Chase was the King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner in 1998. Kelly was an enforcer who amassed 2017 PIMS in a mere 458 regular season games. Despite standing only 6 feet tall, he took on all comers and was a fan favorite in the city of St. Louis.
Prior to joining the Blues organization in 1988, Chase spent 3 seasons in the WHL as a member of the Saskatoon Blades. During that span, Chase played in 195 games where he potted 45 goals, scored 126 points and racked up 800 PIMS! His WHL single season best totals were attained in his last year with the Blades while wearing this jersey as he scored 21 goals, 55 points and accumulated 343 PIMS. Offered here is Chase’s home sweater from his last year with the Saskatoon Blades.
Sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The sleeves of this gamer have been customized with panels added to widen the arms. The game wear on this vintage Cooper jersey is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-reapired burn holes, a few runs, fine inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. Fight abuse is readily evident in the form of washed out bloodstains, stitch pops along the wrists and a collar that has been torn and subsequently repaired several times over. For your enjoyment, shown above are video highlights of Kelly letting fly during his last season in Saskatoon. A tremendous pre-rookie offering, worn by Chase during the season that led to an NHL career.
