Description
1987-88 Barry Pederson Vancouver Canucks Game Worn Jersey
Lot #70

This home gold knit gamer by CCM was worn by Barry Pederson during the 1987-88 NHL season. The Boston Bruins selected Pederson in the 1st round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. He began his 12-year NHL career as a late season call-up with Boston in 1980-81. Barry spent his first 6 seasons in Boston and was looked upon as one of the NHL’s brightest young stars after his first 3 years in the league. During that time he recorded goal totals of 44, 46 and 39 to go along with point totals of 92, 107 and 116. In 11 playoff games in 1982, Barry scored 7 goals and 18 points. He followed it up the next season with 14 goals and 32 points in 17 playoff games as the Bruins went to the 1983 Conference Finals.

Pederson’s career was never the same after he missed the majority of the 1984-85 season to have surgery to remove a benign tumor from his shoulder. Boston GM Harry Sinden then traded Pederson to the Vancouver Canucks. So highly thought of was Pederson, that the Bruins received Vancouver’s 1st round draft choice, 3rd overall in 1987 (Glen Wesley) and Hall of Famer Cam Neely! Pederson spent the next 3+ years with the Canucks, before a deal sent him to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1989-90. Barry spent the next 2 years with the Penguins where he won his only Stanley Cup in 1991. Pederson finished his career with a final season in New England, playing for both the Whalers and Bruins. In 701 career games, Pederson scored 238 goals and scored 654 points while attaining the status of NHL All Star.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. The game wear on this old school Canucks home gold consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, a fight strap that has lost the battle to salt and rust, fine inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. Canucks collectors will realize the rarity of this jersey, as it dons the prestigious Captain’s “C” without the surname Smyl on the reverse. Stan Smyl held the title of Team Captain in Vancouver from 1982 thru 1990. Smyl went down briefly with injury in 1987-88, missing a total of 23 games during which time Barry Pederson wore the Canucks letter of honor. A terrific and rare opportunity to land this stunning 1980’s era Canucks Captain’s jersey!
