This road green heavy mesh gamer by CCM and Steichens was worn by legendary tough guy Willie Plett during the 1986-87 NHL season. Plett burst onto the scene as a member of the Atlanta Flames. His stellar play as a rookie, which included 33 goals, earned him the 1977 Calder Trophy as rookie of the year. Willie netted 222 goals during his career, but is best remembered for all of the PIMS he accumulated. A staggering 2572 regular season PIMS were amassed by this 6’3” 200+ lb. winger during a 12-year NHL career. Willie didn’t slow down during playoff time either; In 83 playoff contsests, Willie netted 24 goals and racked up 466 PIMS.
Sewn perfectly into the collar are the CCM and Steichens tagging. The game use is as you would expect on a Plett sweater. There are stick marks, many board burns, loads of board paint transfer, pilling and a couple of team-sewn repairs. Fight fans won’t be disappointed either. After racking up 263 PIMS during the 1986-87 campaign, there would have to be signs of fight abuse and for sure there are. In addition to bloodstains, the neck stitching is all popped out and heavily pilled from being tugged on so much. The fight strap also shows signs of abuse. This is a classic, now defunct, green and gold worn by one of the legendary bad boys. It is just a fantastic specimen.
