This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Ray Bourque during the 1986-87 NHL season. Bourque’s accomplishments are too lengthy to list in full; some of the highlights include: 1980 Calder Trophy for NHL Rookie of the Year, 1992 King Clancy Memorial Trophy as the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community, (12) 1st and (6) 2nd Team NHL All Star selections, 18 All Star game appearances, 5 Norris Trophies as the leagues best defenseman, a total which trails the likes of Bobby Orr 8, Doug Harvey 7 and Niklas Lidstrom 6. In Ray’s final season he earned the Trophy that had eluded him his entire career, the Stanley Cup.
Bourque is the all-time leading scorer among defenseman with 1579 points, which also places him among the elite on the all-time NHL scoring list. Ray is near the top on the all time assists list with 1169, trailing the likes of Gretzky, Messier and Francis. He is also the all-time leading goal scorer among defenseman with 410. Ray also resides in the top 10 all-time leading playoff scorers in NHL history. He was elected to the Hall of Fame on his first ballot in 2004.
Sewn proudly to the left breast of this sweater is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The outline of a Captain’s “C” can be seen underneath, as Ray alternated the title with teammate Rick Middleton during this era. The game use on this sweater is simply tremendous. There are numerous stick and slash marks, loads of board burns, plenty of that familiar board paint transfer from the old Boston Gardens, washed out bloodstains, heavy inner pilling and an incredible 60 team-sewn repairs. The 1986-87 season was among Ray’s finest, as he scored 23 goals and 95 points which earned him his first of what would be five Norris Trophies as well as a 1st Team NHL All Star selection. The 1986-87 season was also the last full season that Bourque would wear the player number 7, relinquishing it in the first half of the following season so it could be raised to the rafters forever in honor of Phil Esposito. Shown above are a couple of beautiful photo matches of Bourque wearing this exact sweater during the 1986-87 season. Bourque number 7 gamers are among the hobbies most prized possessions. This white CCM knit is nothing short of spectacular and easily ranks among the finest Bourque gamers that exist in the entire hobby. Do not let this opportunity pass you by, as you’ll surely regret it for years to come. An A+ offering.
