Description
1986-87 Brad McCrimmon Philadelphia Flyers Game Worn Jersey
Lot #313

This vintage Flyers jersey was part of the Ken “Hammered Hockey” Mace Collection. Ken’s collection focused intently on both of Pennsylvania’s hockey teams. We will be donating a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of this sweater to the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society both in support of Ken and to help aid in the fight against Blood Cancers.

This road orange heavy mesh gamer by CCM was worn by Brad McCrimmon during the 1986-87 NHL season. The Boston Bruins selected McCrimmon in the 1st round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. He began his NHL career in Beantown in 1979-80 and remained with the Bruins for 3 seasons. In the summer of 1982 the Flyers and Bruins pulled off a major trade where they exchanged Pete Peeters even up for Brad McCrimmon. McCrimmon spent the next 5 seasons with the Flyers and during that time he went to 2 Stanley Cup Finals under the guidance of head coach Mike Keenan. Brad next went to the Calgary Flames where he played for 3 years and won his only Stanley Cup. He then finished out his career with stays in Detroit, Hartford and Phoenix. All told this defenseman played in 1222 games over the course of 18 NHL seasons.

Brad averaged over a PIM per game, winding up with a career total of 1416 PIMS. His most productive offensive seasons came with the Flyers, where he registered back-to-back double-digit goal totals in 1985-86 and 1986-87. McCrimmon was named a 2nd team NHL All Star in 1988 and also won the Plus/Minus Award and played in the NHL All Star game that same season. Since retiring, McCrimmon vigorously pursued a career in coaching. He served behind the bench for 14 seasons representing the Islanders, Saskatoon Blades, Flames, Thrashers, Red Wings and most recently the Yaroslavl Lokomotiv in the KHL, where he had just taken over the reigns as the clubs Head Coach. As you know, Brad tragically lost his life on September 7th 2011 in a plane crash that killed 43 people including all of Yaroslavl Lokomotiv’s players and coaching staff.

Offered here is McCrimmon’s road sweater from the exciting 1986-87 season that saw the Flyers march to the Stanley Cup Finals. Sewn into the collar is the born on tag that reads 86-07. The game wear on this vintage Flyers jersey consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, sweat staining in the under arm area, a fight strap with salt and rust along with inner pilling. Worn during a Stanley Cup Finals season by this talented defenseman, who was destined for an NHL Head Coaching position in the near future when he fell victim to the recent KHL tragedy.

One of the Keenan era Flyers gamers from the Ken “Hammered Hockey” Mace Collection.
