This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by goaltender Allan Bester during the 1986-87 NHL season. Bester tended goal for the Leafs from the 1983-84 season thru 1990 when a trade sent him to the Detroit Red Wings where he finished his NHL career. “Ernie’s” work ethic combined with his diminutive 5’ 7” frame endeared him to teammates and Maple Leafs fans alike.
Sewn to the right shoulder of this sweater is the Heart patch. Sewn to the left shoulder is the King Clancy patch. This combination of patches was only worn during the 2nd half of the 1986-87 season and easily ranks among the toughest and most desired type styles for collectors to obtain from the last quarter century. The goalie cut sleeves have been custom shortened to fit Bester’s specs.
The game wear on this jersey is solid consisting of stick and puck marks, inner pilling and multiple areas of washed out bloodstains. There is a team-sewn repair on the left arm and a couple each at both wrists, done during the customization of this fantastic sweater. On the back player number is a bleach stain which occurred some time after the 1986-87 playoffs. Shown above is a photo-match of Bester weaing this exact jersey during the 1986-87 NHL season.
