Description
1985-86 Don Dietrich/Phil Russell Devils Game Worn Jersey
Lot #41

This road red knit gamer by CCM and Cosby was worn by first Phil Russell followed by Don Dietrich during the 1985-86 NHL season.

Phil Russell was a tough nosed defenseman who patrolled NHL bluelines for better than 1000 games while amassing in excess of 2000 PIMS. He was one of the league’s most revered tough guys during his era. He served with the New Jersey Devils for parts of 3 seasons during the mid 1980’s. He was traded to Buffallo on March 11th 1986. This was Russell’s last ever road jersey from his time with the Devils.

Don Dietrich assumed this gamer upon his call up from the AHL late in the 1985-86 campaign. His NHL career spanned 17 games in Chicago and another 11 in New Jersey. This was his road jersey from his time with the Devils.

Removed from the left breast is the alternate Captain’s “A”, a letter which was worn by Phil Russell in 1985-86. Fine game use consists of stick marks, board burns, loads of board paint transfer, inner pilling, a vented collar and nearly a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. Fine looking vintage gamer from the early years of the Devils existence.
