This home white knit gamer by CCM and Gunzos was worn by Darryl Sutter during the 1984-85 NHL season. Darryl is the 2nd oldest of the 6 “Sutter Brothers”. He was selected by the Chicago Black Hawks in the 11th round of the 1978 NHL entry draft. Darryl would spend his entire playing career in the Windy City where he captained the Black Hawks for 5 consecutive seasons.
Of all the brothers, Darryl’s career was the shortest lasting only 7+ seasons. Despite his shortened career, Darryl does have 40-goal and 30-goal seasons to his credit, both of which were earned in the only 2 seasons that he was healthy enough to play a full slate of games. The other handful of injury-shortened seasons mostly saw Darryl eclipse the 20-goal mark while maintaining his regular 30 or 40 goal pace. The fact that Darryl only partook in a small number of NHL games due to injury, greatly contributes to the difficulty in obtaining his game worn jerseys. Since his retirement in 1987, Darryl has spent most of his time working behind the bench as an NHL head coach or an assistant coach.
Sutter partook in 49 games during the 1984-85 season, scoring 20 goals and 38 points. He was healthy enough to put forth a tremendous playoff effort, playing in 15 games and scoring 12 goals and 19 points as his Hawks fell to the eventual Cup Champion Oilers in the Conference Finals.
Sewn proudly to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. Sewn into the collar is the born on date tagging that reads 84-07. The game use is solid consisting of a good many stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, inner pilling and a handful of team-sewn repairs. This is an awesome Captain’s jersey that played to the roar of the hometown Chicago fans.
