This home white heavy mesh gamer by CCM was worn by Darryl Sittler during his last ever NHL season. Sittler’s accomplishments during his 16-year NHL career are lengthy indeed. His first 12 seasons were spent with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he became both the Captain and the face of the franchise. Nobody will ever forget the night of February 7th 1976 when Sittler produced the greatest offensive game in the history of the NHL. Darryl struck for 6 goals and 4 assists for a total of 10 points in a single game against the Boston Bruins, an NHL record still to this day. That incredible night helped Sittler become the first Maple Leaf’s player in team history to reach 100 points in a season.
There was something special about 1976 for Sittler who would net 5 goals in a playoff game against the Philadelphia Flyers and also score the game winner in overtime to clinch the 1976 Canada Cup for Team Canada. Sittler next spent parts of 3 seasons in Philadelphia and then finished his career with a final season in the Motor City. Darryl’s illustrious career ended with 486 goals and 1121 points. Sittler was often found among the top 10 in league scoring and in 1977-78 Darryl’s 117 points placed him 3rd behind only Guy Lafleur and Bryan Trottier for the league scoring title. Following the mandatory waiting period Sittler was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1989.
This heavy CCM mesh has been custom shortened by the team to better fit Sittler’s frame. The game use is solid consisting of heavy stick marks, board burns, fine pilling and some washed out bloodstains. The born on tag sewn into the collar indicates production of this gamer for use during the 1984-85 season, Darryl’s last in the NHL.
