This stunning rookie jersey was part of the Ken “Hammered Hockey” Mace Collection. We will be donating a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of this sweater to the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society both in support of Ken and to help aid in the fight against Blood Cancers.
This home white heavy mesh gamer by CCM was worn by Sylvain Turgeon during the 1983-84 NHL season, his rookie year. The Hartford Whalers chose Turgeon with the 2nd overall selection in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Sylvain enjoyed a 12-year NHL career that saw him play his first 6 of those seasons with the Hartford Whalers. Turgeon also played for the New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens and the Ottawa Senators. Turgeon’s career spanned 669 games, during which time he netted 269 goals and 495 points. He was twice a 40-goal scorer while with Hartford and represented the Whalers in the 1986 NHL All Star Game.
Offered here is Sylvain’s home sweater from his rookie season. In 76 games played, Turgeon lit the lamp 40 times and totaled 72 points, earning a spot on the 1984 All-Rookie Team and leading the Whalers in goals. The sleeves of this gamer have been custom shortened for Turgeon. Sewn to the shoulders are those lovable old-school pucky whales. The game wear on this jersey is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains and inner pilling. On the inside is a double fight strap and fight abuse is also evident, as the back collar has been torn apart and subsequently restitched by the team. Shown above are a couple of beautiful photo matches of Turgeon wearing this exact jersey during the 1983-84 season. The first while celebrating one of his 40 goals scored during his rookie year and the other a stunning Goal magazine centerfold pullout. A spectacular defunct, photo matched rookie sweater, worn by the 2nd overall pick in that years draft during his 40-goal All-Rookie season. Yet another fantastic offering from the Ken “Hammered Hockey” Mace Collection.
