This road orange mesh gamer by CCM was worn by Rich Sutter during the 1983-84 NHL season, his rookie year. Sutter was the Pittsburgh Penguins 1st round draft choice, 10th overall in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. He spent a total of 9 games in Pittsburgh before joining his twin brother Ron in Philadelphia in 1983-84. Rich would play for 3 years in Philadelphia, taking a trip to the Finals in year 2, before a deal sent him to Vancouver in 1986-87. After 4 years with the Canucks, Sutter joined the St. Louis Blues for 3+ seasons before a brief year + with the Chicago Blackhawks and brief stays with Toronto and Tampa. Rich played in a total of 874 NHL games over the course of 13 seasons. During that span he spent 1411 PIMS in the sin bin after stringing together 9 consecutive triple digit PIM years.
The game wear on this rookie sweater consists of stick marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, fine inner pilling and some team-sewn repair work. The unique nameplate features two plates sewn together, which bear this Sutter brothers full name on back. Rich and Ron played a mere 3 seasons together in Philadelphia and Rich’s jerseys have always been considered a tough find in the hobby. A nice rookie offering from a year that has proven rather difficult to find in Flyers jersey history!
