Rutherford began his NHL career in 1970 with the Red Wings. 2 ½ seasons in Pittsburgh followed before Jim returned to the Motor City where he would spend his next 8 seasons. Brief stints in Toronto and LA followed before Jim returned home to Detroit for his last season in 1982-83. During his career, Jim won in excess of 150 games for his respective teams.
