This road blue mesh gamer by Nike was worn by Grant Fuhr during the 1982-83 NHL season, his sophomore year. It was with the 8th overall selection in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft that the Oilers further cemented their destinty to greatness. Fuhr spent the first 10 years of his 19-year career with the Oilers. During that time he won 5 Stanley Cups and numerous other accolades.
Some of the career highlights include a Vezina Trophy, a Jennings Trophy, a 1st and a 2nd Team NHL All Star selection and 6 NHL All Star game appearances. On the international stage Fuhr represented Team Canada in Rendezvous ‘87 and 2 Canada Cup’s. His stellar work in the 1987 Canada Cup is still talked about to this day, having played in all 9 games and losing just once. In his final NHL season, Fuhr won his 400th game, becoming only the 6th goalie in NHL history to accomplish that feat.
Grant was one of the most durable goalies in the history of the sport. He holds numerous goaltending records that speak to that fact including most games played in a single season with 79 and most consecutive games played with 76. His record breaking undefeated streak of 23 consecutive games in 1982 still stands to this day as does his 14 assists in 1984. On October 6, 2001 the Edmonton Oilers paid homage to their great netminder by retiring his number 31 to the rafters where it hangs alongside the likes of Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Coffey and Anderson.
Offered here is Fuhr’s road sweater from 1982-83, a very important season in franchise history. The Oilers would make their first ever Stanley Cup Finals appearance that season, only to fall at the hands of the New York Islanders dynasty. The lessons learned would serve Gretzky and the boys well the following season, as they dethroned the Islanders and jump-started their own dynasty.

This fine looking sweater features the ever-desirable 1983 Universiade patch and was worn as the Oilers trekked to their first ever Stanley Cup Finals appearance. Also worthy of note is the Nike logo that is found on the back right hem. These Nike jerseys are the only ones in team history where the Nike logo is not found on the back left hem. Nike watched in dismay as ‘The Great One’ tucked the lower right side of his jersey into his pants during the entire 1982-83 campaign, thus covering their logo. Nike’s brass were quick to make the logo adjustment to the left side the following year and that was the way the Oilers would wear them for the next 7 seasons!
