This amazing jersey was part of the Ken “Hammered Hockey” Mace Collection. We will be donating a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of this sweater to the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society both in support of Ken and to help aid in the fight against Blood Cancers.
This road blue heavy mesh gamer by Sandow SK was worn by Doug Smail during the 1982-83 NHL season. After 3 years at the University of North Dakota, Smail joined the Winnipeg Jets in 1980-81. Doug would spend 11 of his 13 NHL seasons with the Winnipeg Jets before playing for the likes of Minnesota, Quebec and Ottawa. Smail was an accomplished two-way winger who scored a career high 31 goals and 66 points during the 1984-85 season.
The Sandow SK and wash instruction tags remains sewn perfectly into the collar of this gamer. The game wear on this vintage sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, a nice un-repaired skate slice on the left sleeve and fine inner pilling. The inside features a custom skate lace fight strap while the satiny material of the nameplate harkens one back to old time Jets hockey. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Smail wearing this exact jersey during the 1982-83 NHL season. An outstanding vintage example from this previously defunct franchise.
It comes as no surprise that this beautiful jersey has solid game wear, as it was part of the Ken “Hammered Hockey” Mace Collection.
