This home white mesh gamer by Sandow was worn by Brian Hayward during the 1982-83 NHL season. Hayward’s career began with the Winnipeg Jets, where he would play for 4 seasons before a deal in the summer of 1986 sent him packing to Montreal where he would serve as Patrick Roy’s backup for the next 4 seasons. A year in Minnesota followed, which saw the North Stars make a Stanley Cup Finals appearance. The last stop on Brian’s NHL tour was in San Jose with the expansion Sharks where he played for 2 seasons before retiring. Brian shared the William M. Jennings Trophy for fewest goals allowed in the league with Patrick Roy 3 consecutive times spanning 1987-1989.
This beautiful quarter century old gamer was worn by Hayward during his rookie NHL season. Brian would play in 24 regular season contests and 3 more in the playoffs. His regular season GAA of 3.71 was quite respectable for the era, especially playing in the NHL’s wild, wild west. On the back number is a black sharpie signature in Brian’s hand. The game wear on this jersey is solid consisting of both stick and puck marks, pilling and plenty of goal post paint transfer which is found on both sleeves and the back of this vintage goalie sweater.
