This road blue knit gamer by Maska was worn by Rene Robert during his brief time with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the early 1980’s. Rene is best known for his time on Buffalo’s feared French Connection line where he teamed with Gilbert Perreault and Rick Martin to wreak havoc on the NHL thru the decade of the 1970’s. After a short stint in Toronto and another in Pittsburgh to begin his career, Rene then joined the Sabres where he played for 8 seasons.
After his time in Buffalo, Robert joined the Colorado Rockies for a year and a half before wrapping up his career with a year plus in Toronto. Rene averaged nearly a point per game during his NHL career and enjoyed his most productive season in 1974-75 when he scored 40 goals and 100 points, helping the Sabres to their first ever trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. Rene played in 2 NHL All Star games and in 1975 was named 2nd team NHL All Star at RW.
Rene joined the Maple Leafs by way of Colorado before the trading deadline during the 1980-81 season, playing 14 games for the Leafs before the playoffs began. In 1981-82, Rene saw action with Toronto in 55 games before officially announcing his retirement that off-season. This beautiful vintage sweater is from Robert’s brief time in Toronto. The game use consists of stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer and fine inner pilling. Robert jerseys rarely if ever come to market, thus providing a great opportunity for the vintage collector to acquire a really tough jersey.
