1981 Bob Bourne Canada Cup Game Worn Jersey
Lot #72

This white mesh gamer by Sandow was worn by Bob Bourne during training camp for the 1981 Canada Cup. Bourne began his career as a rookie in 1974-75 as the Islanders were getting their first taste of success in a season which would end in game 7 of the Semi Final round on Spectrum ice to the defending Stanley Cup champion Flyers. He would become an integral part of the team’s nucleus that would go onto dynasty status in the years to come. Bourne remained an Islander for a dozen seasons and won 4 Stanley Cups before joining the Kings for 2 more years prior to announcing his retirement.

Bobby was 3-times a 30-goal scorer for New York, although his biggest contributions were felt in the playoffs during the dynasty years. During the four consecutive Stanley Cup wining seasons in the 1980’s, Bourne averaged a point per game, 74 points in 74 games, wow. Despite being one of the taller players in the league, Bourne possessed lightning fast speed and he used it to perfection as one of the NHL’s best penalty killers and as a constant breakaway threat. Bobby represented Team Canada in the Canada Cup and was also an NHL All Star.

Bobby, who was voted 4th best Left Wing in the entire NHL at the time the 1981 Canada Cup came about, came to camp as a Free Agent, his contract having expired with the Islanders. After several days at camp, Bourne decided to leave camp rather than risking injury and thus his livelihood. Offered here is Bobby’s jersey from his time in camp in 1981. Stick marks can be found on the front, back and both sleeves while light sweat staining and inner pilling are also present. Nice keepsake worn by this NHL All Star.
