Description
1979-80 Stan Weir Oilers Game Worn Jersey - 1st Year NHL - "75-year Edmonton"
Lot #21

This home white knit gamer by Maska was worn by Stan Weir during the 1979-80 NHL season. Weir enjoyed an 11-year NHL career which began in 1972 with the California Golden Seals. He skated for the Seals for 3 years before heading east to Toronto where Stan spent 3 more years wearing the Maple Leafs blue and white.

After that it was on to the WHA’s Oilers for a season before merging into the NHL with the expansion Edmonton Oilers. It was while with Edmonton, both in the WHA and NHL, where Stan would enjoy his finest statistical seasons. On a team spearheaded by rookie sensation Wayne Gretzky, offense was the name of the game. Stan tallied 30+ goal seasons both in the WHA’s final season of 1978-79 and in 1979-80 while wearing this very sweater.

Sewn to the right shoulder of this gamer is the 75-year Edmonton patch. Game use is solid consisting of stick marks and board burns, un-repaired burn holes, fine inner pilling and 10 team-sewn repairs. Also of note is a custom fight strap featuring the old style coin and skate lace. Historical for the fact that this was worn during the Oilers expansion NHL season as well as having been worn while sharing the ice with a then NHL rookie Wayne Gretzky.
