This home white mesh gamer by Stall and Dean was worn by Craig MacTavish during his rookie NHL season of 1979-80. Craig began his 17-year NHL career in Boston after playing for the University of Lowell. He would remain with the Bruins for 5 seasons before moving to the Edmonton Oilers where he captured 3 Stanley Cups in a 4 year span. Craig finished his playing career with 4 Stanley Cups, adding another as a member of the 1994 New York Rangers.
Craig partook in nearly 1100 regular season contests and nearly another 200 in the playoffs. This defensive specialist and penalty killing extraordinaire did notch better than 200 career goals and also played in the 1996 NHL All Star game. MacTavish will forever be the answer to the trivia question asking which NHL player was the last to not wear a helmet.
Sewn into the collar of this rookie sweater is the manufacturer’s, wash, year and size tagging. Game use is outstanding consisting of stick marks, board burns, plenty of that recognizable Boston Gardens board paint transfer, heavy pilling and no less than a dozen team-sewn repairs. As was commonplace back in this era, the nameplate has been removed by the team.
