This road green heavy mesh gamer by Stall and Dean was worn during the 1st year of the Hartford Whalers existence by Blaine Stoughton. Stoughton was the 7th overall selection by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1973 NHL entry draft. After spending only 1 season with the Penguins, Blaine was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Rick Kehoe.
He spent 2 years with the Leafs before beginning his WHA career in 1976-77 with the Cincinnati Stingers. Following parts of 2 seasons each in Cincinnati and Indianapolis, he became a member of the New England Whalers. Following the collapse of the WHA, Stoughton remained with the Whalers, who took up NHL residency in Hartford. His first NHL season with the Whalers saw Blaine lead the NHL in goals with 56. His next 3 years yielded goal totals of 43, 52 and 45 respectively earning him selection to play in the 1982 NHL All Star game. In 1983-84 Stoughton was dealt out of Hartford to the Rangers where his playing days came to an end.
Sewn to the collar of this historic sweater is the Stall and Dean, wash, size and year tagging. Game wear is solid with many stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, washed out bloodstains, inner and outer pilling, un-repaired burn holes and team-sewn repair work. Worn during Stoughton’s monumental 56-goal season which led the entire NHL in goals, this gamer is ready to please the most ardent Whalers fan.
