This home heavy mesh purple and gold gamer by Goodman & Sons was worn by Syl Apps during the 1978-79 NHL season. Apps, the son of the legendary Maple Leafs Hall of Famer bearing the same name, was drafted 21st overall by the NY Rangers in the 1964 NHL entry draft. He began his NHL career with the New Yorkers in 1970-71. He was dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins midway thru that season and remained with the Steeltown franchise for parts of 8 years. His final NHL stop was in Los Angeles where Syl played for 3 seasons. During his prime, while with the Penguins, Syl averaged better than a point per game in the defensive minded 1970’s NHL and earned an NHL All Star berth in 1975.
Sewn perfectly into the hem are the Goodman & Sons and Bill Vanderburg manufacturer’s tagging. The game wear on this sweater is solid consisting of many stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, fine pilling both inside and out and a half dozen team-sewn repairs. This is a spectacular vintage purple and gold example that will surely brighten up any display of game jerseys.
