Description
1978-79 Reggie Leach Philadelphia Flyers Game Worn Jersey
Lot #30

This home white mesh and knit gamer by Goodman & Sons & Bill Vanderburg was worn by Reggie Leach during the 1978-79 NHL season. Reggie enjoyed a 13-year NHL career that saw him play for several teams including the Bruins, Golden Seals, Flyers and Red Wings. He is best known for his time in Philadelphia where he was an integral part of the “Broad Street Bullies” glory days, playing alongside Hall of Famers Bobby Clarke and Bill Barber.

Leach’s first two seasons in Philadelphia were two of his finest statistically, both culminating with Stanley Cup Finals appearances where he captured his 1st and only Stanley Cup. In 1974-75 Reggie netted 45 goals, while in 1975-76 he scored 60 and also captured the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the playoffs, despite losing to the Montreal Canadiens dynasty. In 16 playoff games that year, Leach scored a resounding 19 goals and 24 total points. Reggie’s 60-goal output made him the 2nd player in NHL history to ever achieve that lofty total. Reggie again turned on the jets in 1979-80 scoring 50 goals while leading his Flyers on an NHL record 35 game unbeaten streak and another trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. It seemed that as Reggie went, so did the Flyers. Leach played in 2 NHL All Star games and was a 2nd team NHL All Star in 1976. He scored an impressive 381 goals during his NHL career and will be remembered as a key component on the “LCB Line” one of the best lines of the 1970’s.

Sewn into the collar of this jersey is the Goodman & Sons and Bill Vanderburg tagging. The game wear on this sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, fine inner pilling and a team-sewn repair on the belly to repair a slash gash. Removed from the left shoulder is the circular Barry Ashbee patch. A tremendous late-seventies gamer from this highly coveted and tough to obtain Philadelphia Flyers sniper, choice!
