This home gold heavy mesh gamer by Goodman & Sons and Bill Vanderburg was worn by Curt Fraser during the 1978-79 NHL season, his rookie year. Fraser was the 22nd overall selection in the 1978 NHL Amateur Draft by Vancouver. He joined the Canucks as a rookie in 1978-79 and remained with the franchise for 5 seasons before heading to the Chicago Blackhawks. Curt spent parts of 6 seasons in Chicago before playing out his final 3 years in Minnesota.
This bruising Left Wing recorded 5 seasons of 25 goals or better during his career. In 704 games, he racked up 1306 PIMS with single season bests in Chicago of 182 PIMS and in Vancouver of 175 PIMS. Regarded as one of the best power forwards of his generation, Curt played a major role in his team’s deep playoff runs. In 1982 with Vancouver, Fraser showed his muscle come playoff time with a 98 PIMS effort in 17 games as the Canucks went to the Cup Finals. Since retiring, Curt has spent time behind the bench for numerous organizations including as the original head coach of the expansion Atlanta Thrashers.
The game wear on this rookie sweater is solid with loads of stick and slash marks littering this heavy V-Style mesh. In addition there are board burns, un-repaired burn holes, gobs upon gobs of inner pilling and some team-sewn repair work. Fight abuse is evident as the front collar has been tugged apart and subsequently repaired by the training staff. The Goodmans and Vanderburg tagging remain sewn perfectly in the hem. The 1978-79 season marked the first year of the color change to black and gold, as well as to the V-Style design in Vancouver. This all-original example has to be one of the very nicest in the entire hobby. Choice offering that was worn by this fan favorite during his rookie season some 30 odd years ago.
