This home white mesh gamer by Champion was worn by Mike Milbury during his rookie season in the NHL. Following a 3 game call up in 1975-76, Milbury would be a regular on the Bruins blueline beginning in his rookie season of 1976-77 and continuing on thru the 1986-87 season. Mike spent his entire 12-year career with the Bruins and, after retiring, became the Bruins head coach where he guided his team to the Finals and Semi Finals in his 2 seasons of work behind their bench. Milbury was a hard nosed defenseman who played with an edge as evidenced by his 1552 PIMS in 754 games played. In 86 playoff contests Mike accumulated another 219 PIMS.
This spectacular rookie jersey shows the signs of Mike’s gritty style of play. Game wear is solid consisting of stick marks, board burns, plenty of that familiar board paint transfer from the old Boston Gardens boards, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and approximately 2 dozen team-sewn repairs. One of these repairs is a lengthy one which extends from the back collar downward 4 inches. The original nameplate would have been a victim of this damage and was obviously replaced. Shown above is a photo-match of Milbury wearing this exact gamer during his rookie season.
Worn by a then baby faced rookie who hailed from Brighton, Ma and played his entire career in front of his true hometown fans. Spectacular 30+ year old photo matched rookie jersey that is sure to enhance any serious collection of Bruins gamers.
