This home white dureen tie down gamer by Rawlings was worn by Joe Kowal during the 1976-77 NHL season. Kowal played 2 seasons in the NHL, splitting time with the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres and the AHL’s Hershey Bears in 1976-77 and 1977-78.
Sewn in the collar of this tie-down gamer is the Rawlings manufacturer’s tag. This jersey is very large, which fits the tale perfectly as Kowal was a robust 6’ 5” 212 lbs. Nice signs of use fittingly abound as a hungry minor leaguer fought hard during his NHL call up as a rookie. There are numerous stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer from the Aud, un-repaired holes and inner pilling. The all original crest sits glowingly and impeccably preserved on the chest. Worn during the last season prior to nameplates being mandated, there are no signs of a plate having ever been on this sweater. Fantastic mid 1970’s tie-down which is becoming increasingly more difficult for Sabres enthusiasts to find.
