This road red dureen gamer by Wilson was worn by Nelson Pyatt during the 1974-75 NHL season, which was the first year of the Washington Capitals existence. Pyatt’s career began a season earlier in Detroit, and an in-season trade sent him from the Wings to the Capitals during 1974-75. In Washington’s second season, 1975-76, Pyatt was the team’s leading scorer. The Capitals initial foray into the NHL shattered the mark for futility set 2 years earlier by the expansion New York Islanders. When the Caps’ initial season was complete, they had amassed only 8 victories and a total of 21 points. These marks will likely never be challenged, leaving these beloved Caps as the owner of them for all-time.
This road red dureen shows solid game use consisting of stick marks, board burns, heavy inner pilling, un-repaired holes and a handful of team-sewn repairs. This is one of a small number of first year Capitals gamers to have made it into our hobby. Having been worn by one of the clubs early stars only enhances its already high collectibility factor. First year franchise jerseys have always been a popular collecting theme among enthusiasts and this example will surely please.
