This home white dureen gamer by Rawlings was worn during the 1972-73 NHL season by goaltender Roy Edwards. Edwards began his professional playing career during the late 1950’s. He would remain a fixture in the minors including the IHL, AHL, WHL, EPHL, CHL and CPHL before getting his break during the Original 6 expansion in 1967 with Detroit. He would play 6 NHL seasons with the Red Wings and another sandwiched in-between with the Pittsburgh Penguins before hanging up his skates.
Edwards immediately became the man the Wings turned to playing in 40+ games in most every season with the club. His highest total of games played was in 1972-73, the year in which he donned this sweater. Roy turned away rubber in 52 contests that season while posting a most respectable 2.63 GAA while wearing this very sweater.
Game use consists of stick and puck marks, goal post paint transfer, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and -ewn repairwork. Removed from the back is the TV nameplate which was undoubtedly used for a nationally televised contest, a commonality of the era. Fine looking goalie worn vintage dureen.
