Description
1972-73 Craig Cameron Islanders Game Worn Jersey - 1st Year Islanders
Lot #4

This road blue dureen tie-down gamer by Cosby was worn by Craig Cameron during the 1972-73 NHL season, the Islanders first in existance. Cameron’s NHL career began in Detroit in 1966-67. He would next play for St. Louis during the clubs inaugural season where he stayed for 3 years. A season in Minnesota followed before he joined the expansion Islanders. During his 3rd season in New York Craig would get dealt back to the North Stars for a final 2 years before hanging up the skates.

Cameron’s 19 goals scored were second to only Billy Harris for the expansion New York Islanders. The Islanders were a team which set the mark for NHL futility with only 12 Wins and 30 points. The scarcity of 1st year Islanders gamers cannot be understated, this being only the 2nd example we’ve ever had the pleasure of handling and the only one to our knowledge ever to be offered at auction. It was only on road jerseys during the 1st season in which the Islanders wore this distinctive orange on white color scheme for their player numbers, easily helping these beautiful gamers stand out amongst a crowd.

Sewn perfectly into the collar of this 1st year sweater is the Cosby, wash and size tagging. Sewn to the belly is the all original exquisite crest. Game wear consists of stick marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, heavy inner pilling and team-sewn repairwork. The back player number nine shows some wear and slight deterioration of the top tackle twill orange layer which is worthy of mention. This all original and well worn example is a true hobby rarity, one of only two we’ve ever handled and the only one to our knowledge to be offered at auction. We cannot easily impress upon you the importance of this offering. Islanders fans and vintage collectors, here’s that opportunity you’ve been waiting decades for, Good Luck!
