This white dureen gamer by Rawlings and Giesler-Jorgens was worn by goaltender Ernie Wakely during the early 1970’s. Ernie was both an NHL and WHA All Star during a career which began with Winnipeg in the WHL back in 1959-60 and didn’t end until 1978-79 with the WHA’s Birmingham Bulls. He spent his time in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues before bolting for the WHA where he spent time with 5 different clubs over 7 seasons. In a poll taken of the 50 greatest WHA players of all time, Ernie Wakely ranked 17th on that prominent list.
Sewn into the hem of this gamer are the Rawlings, Giesler-Jorgens and wash instruction tagging. The game wear consists of stick and puck marks, goal post paint transfer, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and team-sewn repairwork. The body of this sweater was shortened as this was part of a set of gamers which were sent to a local high school club after the Blues finished using them. Gorgeous 4 decade old goalie sweater!
